The IRC's Staff

 

Michael Rudnicki, the IRC’s Scientific Director (mrudnicki@ohri.ca), is a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and a Professor of Medicine at uOttawa. He is the Director of the Sprott Centre for Stem Cell Research and is Scientific Director of the Stem Cell Network. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Molecular Genetics, is an International Scholar of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Rudnicki's lab has made many seminal discoveries concerning the function of regulatory genes that regulate myogenic stem cell proliferation and differentiation. As Scientific Director of the IRC, he chairs the Steering Committee and reports to the IRC Board of Directors. He will be responsible for all aspects of the Canadian project.
 
 
William Read, the IRC’s Project Manager (wread@ohri.ca), has worked closely with Michael Rudnicki in building the IRC since its inception in August 2003. In addition to his general managerial responsibilities, William has played an active role in the identification and acquisition of Consortium funding and co-funding, and in the establishment of the organization and governance structures for the Consortium. For six years prior to joining the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, William was the Director of Software Development for two start-up companies in Ottawa, one a going concern (Signiant) that emerged from Nortel Networks in 2001. Prior to that, he spent fifteen years with the Department of National Defence as an air force officer. William holds degrees in computer science (MCS, University of Ottawa, 1994) and business administration (MBA, Royal Roads University, 2005). He has held the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation since 1999.
 
Chris Porter is IRC’s Bioinformaticist (cporter@ohri.ca). He performs database design, programming, curation and management. Chris is responsible for coordinating international data sharing and inter-database communication.
